Malaysia meets its five-medal esports target at the Asian Games
One gold, two silvers and two bronzes complete the national esports squad’s return from Aichi-Nagoya.

Malaysia finished its Asian Games esports campaign with five medals across nine events, according to a Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) statement reported by Bernama on 2 October.
That total meets the minimum target MESF announced on 19 August. Before the Games, the federation had set its sights on at least five medals while hoping to secure a first gold.
A first gold changes the record
Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira delivered that breakthrough in Gran Turismo 7 on 23 September. At the previous edition in Hangzhou, Malaysia’s esports medals were an Arena of Valor silver and a Dota 2 bronze.
MESF credited preparation and collaboration with national sports bodies. It also said the full-time Podium Programme had helped some esports athletes prepare in a more structured way.
What the result tells us
The clearest measure is the target itself: Malaysia delivered the five medals it planned for and added a first esports gold. Assessing how to repeat that return will require looking at each game’s preparation and results.
