Team Rey beat SRG 2–1 before MPL MY’s break
A win over the four-time consecutive domestic champions gives Team Rey a result to build on.
Team Rey defeated Selangor Red Giants 2–1 on 20 September in MPL Malaysia Season 18. They head into the league’s Asian Games break with a win over one of Malaysia’s most decorated teams.
SRG’s official league profile records four consecutive MPL MY titles and the MSC 2024 championship. Beating a team with that record makes this a significant result for Team Rey, even though one series cannot decide the season.
A test of Team Rey’s longer-term project
Team Rey describe their organisation as a development pathway rooted in grassroots tournaments, with youth and university initiatives. The win offers a concrete competitive result alongside that stated ambition.
The next question is whether they can sustain that level when league play resumes. Their next listed opponent is Bigetron MY, while SRG face Team Flash on the same match day.
Next fixtures: Thursday, 8 October
Team Rey–Bigetron MY is scheduled for 5pm and SRG–Team Flash for 8.15pm, Malaysia time. Check the official fixture list for changes before planning a visit or watch party.
